A gentle shift from doing to being...

Dropping into the stillness and support of a restorative pose, one finds a a

spacious sense of stability and comfort.

In a restorative yoga, we assemble poses assisted by multiple yoga props which form a container in which the body and being can rest and release fully. Each shape is carefully constructed and held without effort for an extended time. Our focus is not on stretching the body, but finding a sense of assurance and openness which facilitates the releasing of tension and rebalancing of the nervous system.

In the design and details of the pose the smallest change can make the biggest difference. Aligning a bolster pillow to a particular angle or adding the support of a blanket under the head can be all that's required to help a student shift from a place of resistance to a quiet state of softness and ease.

In the complete support, one stops discerning the physical experience from the mental or emotional - we just feel fully supported as a human being.

Why Restore?

Restorative yoga facilitates the recalibration of our nervous systems. It shifts us from an often dull but constant state of stress (our sympathetic or fight/flight/freeze response), towards a more healing & integrative state (our parasympathetic or rest & digest response).

This practice is ideal for processing & releasing the stress of modern life. In this way, restorative yoga can be helpful to everyone and is an accessible practice for students of all levels of experience or fitness.

But restorative yoga is particularly beneficial for students who may struggle in other styles of yoga -  students with stress, chronic pain, fatigue, digestive issues, poor immune function and even those recovering from a severe injury.

Perhaps one of the most important applications of restorative yoga is supporting students with generalized anxiety disorders, who may find that a regular restorative yoga practice can help them to re-pattern their stress responses.

While restorative yoga may seem "easy" because it requires the least physical effort & accommodates the body with as much support as possible, I have often witnessed many individuals who move with ease through vinyasa flow, but really struggle to access that same state of being in relaxation.

Through this practice, we learn that true relaxation is a skill to be cultivated and a doorway to wellbeing.

the FAQ's

The frequently asked questions about this course

(We recommend you review this section prior to your registration)

I’m not a yoga teacher, but I love Restorative Yoga and I’m interested in participating for my own self-practice. Can I join the course?

Yes. Dedicated students are welcome and we would love to support you in developing your knowledge and love of this practice. Please note that while there are no prerequisites for this training, the course will include a lot of philosophy, nervous system theory and anatomy. We also like to advise students that regardless of whether you are a teacher or not, this is a professional certification program and all participants will be required to teach a short practicum in the final days of training. At our in-studio trainings, you will teach a short class with a partner or group. In online trainings, you will submit a 15-minute video of you teaching to receive your certificate.

I am a movement or wellness professional, but not a yoga teacher. Can I join the course?

Yes. While the course is instructed from the perspective and application of yoga practice, these tools may also be applicable to other wellness spaces.

I am not an advanced practitioner of yoga. Or I’m recovering from an injury. Can I join the course?

There is no prerequisite of physical flexibility or strength in order to join our course. You are welcome exactly as you are. Our courses do not elevate certain body types and we are always dedicated to creating training environments which are inclusive and adaptable for all bodies. If you are concerned about a specific injury or condition you are experiencing or recovering from, please speak with our course organizers. It will probably be fine for you to attend, but we want to make sure that the program is appropriate and supportive to whatever your present needs are.

Will I be eligible for continuing education hours?

Yes. Eva is registered with the US/International Yoga Alliance as a YACEP (Yoga Alliance continuing Education Provider) and our course curriculum has been approved for CE. Provided you attend all course hours and complete your final written assignments, you may upload your certificate within the Yoga Alliance platform and Eva will approve it to log your CE hours in their system.

Is there an exam or final assignments?

Yes. In order to receive certification, in-studio participants are required to teach a short practicum on the last day of training and complete two final written assignments following the training. Online participants will complete the two written assignments and submit a short 15-minute teaching video. These assignments include submitting a final written exam and a class plan. Breathe and don’t stress. Between attending the course hours and the support of your in-depth restorative manual, you should be able to complete these without much challenge. Assignments are generally due one month following the training.  Extensions may be available depending on individual circumstances (please speak to the course organizer directly).

What is the scope of practice?

This program offers yoga teachers education in restorative yoga techniques which can be instructed for your student’s own practice in a group or private class setting. Participants will not be trained or certified to diagnose or treat any conditions and should not make such claims. While principles of trauma-sensitivity will be included in the curriculum, participants will not be trained or certified in trauma informed yoga. We will also include a brief conversation on restorative yoga for pregnancy, however participants will not be trained or certified in teaching prenatal clients.

What will our training days include?

In-studio, our days together will start and end with restorative yoga practices. These two daily classes also serve as examples of sequencing and theming structures. The rest of our training sessions will include a blend of theoretical lecture, embodied anatomical learning, and restorative technique and asana tutorials.

What should I bring to training?

Just the YTT usuals:

  • Yourself, your mat + a water bottle

  • Pens and a notebook for any extra note taking beyond your comprehensive manual

  • Comfy yoga clothes (We always recommend having layers)

  • Online Training:

    • A steady wifi connection, your digital course textbook, access to zoom and our course container (hosted here on www.eva.yoga)

    • You'll also need to have props to practice at home: two bolsters, 2-4 blocks, 2-4 blankets, and a strap

I need to miss a training session of the YTT. Is this possible?

Full attendance is mandatory to receive certification. Please speak to the course organizers (not venue) about any potential conflicts in advance. Depending on the individual situation, we may be able to find a solution involving an extra assignment, however any pattern of non-approved inattendance would result in incomplete accreditation requirements.

What is not included in the YTT price?

Student’s travel and/or accommodation is not included in the course tuition and course organizers are not responsible for any such arrangements.

How does the payment plan work?

We offer a three month payment plan to help make the training more accessible. When you register for the course, the first payment is taken. The two recurring payment will be automatically processed on the same day of the following months. Please note, all three payments must be completed in advance of the start of our in-person training.

What is the cancelation or refund policy?

If a student needs to cancel their booking:

  • Online Trainings |

    • Student cancelations previous to one-month before the training will receive credit to attend another course with Eva

    • Within one month of the online course, all monies are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  • In-Studio Training at RESET Glasgow |

    • All monies are non-refundable and non-transferable.

What happens if the YTT cannot run in person as scheduled (in the event of a lockdown)?

In the event that the YTT cannot proceed as planned in-studio, we will communicate with all students and find the best possible solution, whether that is offering the training online as scheduled or postponing until we can safely continue together.
